Aged Care

The aim of RSB’s services is to support older people who are blind or vision impaired to remain independent and an integral part of the community. The RSB achieves this through the provision of a consumer directed care approach supported by specialist assessment and services focused on wellness and reablement that meet the diverse needs of older people who are blind orvision impaired.

People are eligible for aged care services once they are 65 years of age, or 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Australian Government subsidises many different types of aged care services. These aged care packages and programs are there to help you stay as independent as you can, including living in your own home. Each program or package has broad eligibility criteria and an assessment process to determine your needs and eligibility. An assessment process helps to ensure everyone receives the care and support they need.

For example, if you need some help at home you will need to meet eligibility requirements for a particular service. These requirements might include a minimum age and a need for assistance to perform basic daily living tasks. The assessment will determine your eligibility and identify exactly how much and what type of help you will need.
