Recreation and Leisure

The Recreation and Leisure service provides assistance to help people who are blind or vision impaired to maintain their recreation and leisure interests, or discover new ones.

Services Provided

The RSB offers a personalised service to fulfil the recreational and leisure needs of individual clients, either at home or in community based activities. This includes integration into mainstream recreation and leisure activities, or involvement in activities specifically for people who are blind or vision impaired.

Assistance can be provided with lighting, magnification, adapted equipment, and volunteer support, which will enable clients to enjoy fulfilling hobbies or pastimes.

The RSB also provides information on a wide range of leisure opportunities and recreation groups such as sport, craft and cultural activities. This enables people to continue to enjoy participation in a range of community based activities.

Assistance with Recreation and Leisure is an outreach service, which can be delivered in the person’s own home, local community or other recreational facilities. This service is available in both Metropolitan and Regional areas of South Australia.

The Recreation and Leisure Service is available to all RSB clients. To be eligible to become an RSB client, a person must be diagnosed by an eye care professional as being legally blind, or likely to become legally blind.

People can self-refer for this service, or can be referred by a friend or family member, Doctor, or other health professional, by phoning the Referrals Officer on (08) 8417 5555, or toll-free for Country callers on 1800 675 554 during business hours.
