Advocacy

The RSB advocates on behalf of people who are blind or vision impaired, to ensure that their needs are being met, and that their vision loss is not an obstacle to access the services that they require.

RSB staff undertake Individual Advocacy on behalf of individual clients, to meet their specific needs. This includes contacting and negotiating with a range of organisations such as Centrelink, Housing Authorities, Employers, or other service providers.

The RSB also undertakes Systemic Advocacy in relation to broader issues that affect the whole vision impaired community. This includes influencing Legislation and Government policy to advance the rights and interests of people who are blind or vision impaired, and persuading product and service providers to ensure that their products and services are accessible to people who are blind or vision impaired.
