Print Alternatives Service

Goal of Service

The Print Alternatives Service makes printed information accessible to people who are blind or vision impaired, by providing it in accessible formats such as Braille, Large Print, Audio, electronic text, or tactile diagrams and maps.

Services Provided

Access to a wide range of information is a cornerstone for independence and social inclusion.  The Print Alternatives Service transcribes printed information into alternative formats that are accessible to people who are blind or vision impaired.

Information that can be transcribed includes such materials as recreational reading, study materials, or work-related information. These can include a wide range of everyday items such as recipes, phone contact lists, instruction books, newsletters, textbooks, information brochures, or contracts.

The required information can be transcribed into the client’s format of choice, which includes:

  • Braille;
  • Large Print;
  • Audio;
  • Electronic text (e-text); and
  • Tactile diagrams and maps.
  •

    The Print Alternative Service also offers access to the following recreational services:

  • Large Print Crosswords;
  • Talking Book Library Service;
  • Large Print TV Guide; and
