RSB Equipment Subsidy Scheme
An Equipment Scheme has been established to assist legally blind South Australian clients of the RSB who need financial assistance to purchase essential equipment.
Under the scheme clients are able to make an application to the RSB to receive financial help to purchase specialised equipment. Each piece of equipment must cost a minimum of $200, and a grant of up to 50% of the cost of the item to a maximum of $2,000 may be made, subject to application approval.
In some instances grants are available from other programs and trusts to purchase specialised equipment. For instance some vocational and tertiary study requirements are sometimes able to be funded through government programs or other trusts.
The number of grants issued in a year would be dependent on the number of applicants and the value of grants received each year. Priority would be given to those people who had not received previous support from the scheme.
Applications can be made at any time during the year and the RSB will consider grants each quarter - on the 31st March, 30th June, 30th September and the 31st December.
